A New Beginning
You cannot change the past or control the future, but today, you can choose to change.
The clock strikes 12 and it is done. The year is over and a new one has begun.
New Year’s is a day many people choose to make changes in their lives. Like ending one chapter in a book and beginning a new one. It is a clearly defined line between the old and the new. The bad past and bright future. A perfect time for a fresh start.
While New Year’s Day is the start of a new year, Easter Day can be the start of a new life. It is a day of forgiveness, wiping away our sins, and a promise of eternal life with Jesus and God. A life of hope and joy. A life of salvation.
Easter is a reminder of the life changing forgiveness that can only be had through Jesus Christ. No matter what our past; we can be forgiven, become a new person in Him, and live a life that brings glory to God.
Easter is the most important Christian holiday. Yes, Christmas celebrates Jesus’ birth, but Easter celebrates Jesus’ resurrection. Everyone has been born, but only Jesus was raised from the dead, as our Lord and Savior.
Easter is the basis of what makes Christianity different from all other religions. It is the day we celebrate Jesus’ gift of salvation. Our faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, so we may be forgiven and have eternal life with God, our Father, relies on this single day.
We Can Start A New Life
God allows us to choose to give up our old, sinful life and start a new life following Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Jesus’s gift of dying on the cross and rising from the dead has given us a chance for a new birth and new hope.
Some of the most famous verses of the Bible, John 3:16-17, say it clearly “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
Having faith and believing this truth about Jesus’ gift of salvation allows us to be born again and start our new life .
1 Peter 1:3 says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”
Anyone Can Change
No one can go back and change their past, but you can start now to change your future. While it is true you can never truly start over, you can be born again.
Look at the Apostle Paul, previously known as Saul. He actively persecuted Christians and put them in jail. In fact, he watched while a Christian man named Stephen was stoned to death for his belief in Jesus Christ.
The Bible tells us about this in:
Acts 22:20 – “And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.”
Acts 8:1 – “And Saul approved of his execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem,”
Acts 8:3 – “But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.”
Yet after all of these terrible acts towards Christians, Saul saw the resurrected Jesus and believed that Jesus was the Messiah.
Saul/Paul became a mighty Christian and planted many churches to help spread the word of God and the teachings of Jesus.
It is Not Difficult To Do
Romans 10:9 says: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Here is a sample prayer that you could pray, out loud:
“God, I am a sinner. I am sorry for my sins and the life I have lived. I’m willing to turn from my sins and my sinful life. Please forgive me and help me to avoid sinning again.
I believe that your son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, rose from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer.
I receive Jesus as my Lord and savior, from this moment on.
Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
Start Your New Life Today
It is not too late to turn to Christ, ask for forgiveness, and start a new life.
Do not wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow may never come.
Jesus might return today and it will be too late.
